American Citizen Services (ACS) Appointments

American Citizen Services (ACS) Appointments

An appointment is required for all passport, consular report of birth abroad (CRBA), notarial and other services. Each applicant for consular services must have an appointment. For example, if a family of five needs to renew five passports, FIVE separate appointments are required, one for each applicant. Appointments do not have to be at the same time, just all on the same day. All applicants must book the correct type of appointment. For example, applicants seeking a CRBA who appear at the Consulate with a passport, visa pages, or notarial appointment will be turned away. Before making an appointment, please follow completely these instructions:

Applicants who come to the Consulate without the required documents or without an appointment will be turned away.

Applicants who reside in Canada are eligible to renew their passports by mail, despite the instructions on the DS-82 form stating that overseas residents may not renew by mail.

Helpful hints for passport or CRBA appointment holders:

  • Be sure to complete all forms, and bring all required original supporting civil documents, evidence and required fees.
  • Make an extra copy to leave with us or be prepared to pay USD 1 for each photocopy.
  • Bring a prepaid, self-addressed Canada Post Xpresspost envelope to return your completed passport or CRBA. Please DO NOT purchase the “Pack” size envelope. Only one envelope per family or group is required. Put your information in both the "To" and "From" sections. We can only return issued passports and CRBAs by mail to an Ontario address.
  • Once you are in the on-line appointment system:
    • Click on the first or second entry on the appointment page for passports, as desired
    • Click on the third entry on the appointment page for CRBAs: "report the birth abroad"
    • Click on the fourth entry on the appointment page for notarial or other services
  • Upon arrival to the public entrance at 225 Simcoe Street, look for the outside customer service window dedicated to American citizens. Give your appointment letter to the person inside the window, who will ask you a few questions and review your documents to ensure that you have everything required for your service. S/he may provide further instructions before directing you to the ACS unit on the third floor.
  • If you come unprepared your appointment will be cancelled.

If you have followed all instructions you may now book an appointment for passport, CRBA, notarial or other services.
