Consul General Johnson attends Ceremony to Commemorate the life of Harriet Tubman
On May 27, 2011, Consul General Kevin M. Johnson and local dignitaries attended a ceremony organized by Parks Canada and the U.S. Parks Service to unveil a plaque in honor of Harriet Tubman, an African-American abolitionist who helped slaves escape north and into Canada through the Underground Railroad.

Consulate General Toronto Participates in Environmental Civic Activity
On April 15th, for the third consecutive year, Consular Chief Mark Bysfield and other Consulate General Toronto staff participated in the city of Toronto's 20-Minute Makeover, an environmental initiative to pick up litter in the city. Consulate staff helped to clean the consulate neighborhood. Through its support for this city of Toronto initiative, the Consulate demonstrated its commitment to promoting environmental awareness and civic pride.

ICE Homeland Security Investigations Receives Award
On April 14, 2011, James Dinkins, Executive Associate Director of ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) accepted an award for “Operation Predator,” an HSI initiative targeting child sex predators. The award was presented by the Kid’s Internet Safety Alliance (KINSA). Since 2003, HSI has made more than 11,600 arrests in on-line child exploitation cases.

2011 Binational Dialogue Summit in Niagara Falls
(Niagara Falls, ON) March 10-11, Consul General Kevin M. Johnson and Canadian Consul General in Buffalo Marta Moszczenska co-hosted the 2011 Binational Dialogue Summit in Niagara Falls which was sponsored in part by the Binational Economic and Tourism Alliance. The summit featured business, tourism, and academic leaders from Ontario and the New York sides of the border and focused on ways to aid both the Niagara Region in Southern Ontario and the Buffalo Niagara region through cultural, sports and economic development-based initiatives.

Consul General attends Betty Woodman Exhibition at the Gardiner Museum
On March 1, Consul General Kevin M. Johnson, attended the opening of the “Places, Spaces & Things” exhibition by renowned American ceramic artist Betty Woodman at the Gardiner Museum. The exhibition, which is funded in part through a grant from the Department of State, features a selection of porcelain table pieces produced by Ms. Woodman during multiple visits to Europe, as well as large-scale sculptural vessels and wall installations. The exhibition runs from March 3 to June 5, 2011. Betty Woodman was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, and is among the most important contemporary ceramic artists.
