In our ever-changing world, America's first line of defense is timely, accurate intelligence that is shared, integrated, analyzed, and acted upon quickly and effectively. That's what the intelligence reforms after the 9/11 attacks largely achieved. That's what our intelligence community does every day. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Responds to H1N1 Vaccination Requirement Rumor
(12/08/2009) U.S. Customs and Border Protection would like to address rumors regarding U.S. entry requirements and the H1N1 virus: Travelers do NOT need to present proof that they received the H1N1 flu vaccine in order to enter the United States. No such vaccination requirement exists. Travelers are encouraged to visit the Department of Health and Human Services Flu Web site for current information on seasonal flu prevention, and the "Know Before You Go" section under the Travel tab of the CBP Web site for helpful traveler tips.

USCIS Launches Immigration Inquiry Mailbox for Canadians
WASHINGTON— U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today announced the creation of a general inquiry mailbox for customers in Canada. Currently Canadians cannot access the National Customer Service Center through the 1-800 number to ask about general immigration questions. Canadian customers may now inquire about general immigration information at USCIS.Canada@dhs.gov in addition to obtaining immigration information at www.uscis.gov.

The creation of this mailbox signifies a major step in USCIS’ outreach to Canadians since the dissolution of the Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) Ottawa office in 2003. ¬For more information on USCIS and its programs, visit www.uscis.gov.

A New Way Forward - The President's Address
The President has outlined his strategy on Afghanistan and Pakistan from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.: "The 30,000 additional troops that I am announcing tonight will deploy in the first part of 2010 – the fastest pace possible – so that they can target the insurgency and secure key population centers. They will increase our ability to train competent Afghan Security Forces, and to partner with them so that more Afghans can get into the fight. And they will help create the conditions for the United States to transfer responsibility to the Afghans.” [read transcript or watch video] [fact sheet]

Consul General Johnson briefs the American Chamber of Commerce on U.S. –Canada Relations in Markham, Ontario Strengthening U.S. Prosperity
On October 22, Consul General Kevin Johnson, addressed the American Chamber of Commerce on current issues affecting U.S.-Canada relations, including trade, border security, intellectual property rights, and “Buy America” language in the U.S. stimulus package. In his remarks, the Consul General pointed out that, “Partnership requires keeping irritants in context…neither ignoring them, nor letting them undermine solutions or our shared success.”

Kevin Johnson has represented the United States as Consul General in Toronto, Canada since August of 2009. Joining the Foreign Service in 1983, Mr. Johnson served in 8 Embassies in Europe and Latin America as well as in Washington before coming to Canada.

Mr. Johnson served as Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) in Oslo, Norway from 2006 to 2009, and as DCM in Asuncion, Paraguay from 2003 to 2006. He is a 2003 distinguished graduate of the National War College in Washington D.C. [more].

On September 24, Consul General Johnson addressed the Canadian International Council (CIC), a non-partisan, nationwide research council established to strengthen Canada's foreign policy, on "U.S.-Canada relations under the Obama Administration." In his remarks the Consul General outlines key aspect of foreign policy and referred to recent statements made by the President at the United Nation and in other settings that explain U.S. policy in regard to multilateralism, Iraq and Afghanistan, and trade issues.

The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or other travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security.
