Visa Appointment Wait Times

We regret that it may take a considerable length of time before an appointment is available on our calendar, due a growing demand for visas and limited consular resources. We urge applicants to plan well in advance of their desired travel.

Visa Appointments: Average Wait Time (calendar days) before an appointment is available. Visa Processing: Average Wait Time (workdays) after the appointment for approved visas to be prepared.

All applicants should be aware that the times noted above are AVERAGES and the processing time of a specific case can vary due to individual circumstances. No prior assurance can be given that an applicant is eligible for a visa or an approved visa will be ready in time to suit the applicant's plans.

Expedited appointments for petition based employment nonimmigrant visa applicants may be available for a limited number of applicants. Please see the instructions Petition Based Employment (H1B, L, O, P, Q) Visas, Request for Expedited Appointment.

Expedited appointments may be available in certain other, life or death, emergencies. Please see our Visa FAQ page for procedures. Such expedited appointments are very limited in number and their availability cannot be assured.

Treaty trader and investor (E) visa applicants from all provinces in Canada except British Colombia and Yukon must follow separate procedures at the U.S. Consulate Toronto.

Student (F and M) and exchange visitor (J) visa applicants should identify themselves to the appointment service provider www.nvars.com for possible expeditious appointment.
