U.S. Consular Services in Toronto

Our role is limited by statute to certain defined visa and U.S. citizen services. Many commonly sought services are not the responsibility of the Department of State, such as immigration and customs, social security, veteran's affairs, taxes and voting.

Please check these websites, as well as the U.S. Consulate in Toronto American Citizen Services Unit or the Entering the U.S. Section, the Department of State and U.S. Embassy Ottawa, Consular Services, BEFORE you seek any consular or visa service. Advice or appointments are unavailable through the consulate switchboard. Visa, passport and nationality applicants are seen by appointment only. All services require significant preparation on the applicant's part. Please make an appointment and fully prepare before visiting us. We are open Monday through Friday, except on American and Canadian holidays.

If your inquiry involves another government please seek information from that country's authorities. If your inquiry involves any Canadian government matter, please visit the Canadian government website. We have neither the resources nor expertise to offer advice on non-U.S. matters.

All visitors and personal items seeking entry to the consulate are screened by use of walk-through and hand-held metal detectors, as well as by personal inspection. No electronic items of any kind, or items deemed to be dangerous, are allowed. Any visitor who declines screening shall be denied entry. Please do not bring the following prohibited items to the consulate as there is no storage in or outside of the consulate:

• Electronic equipment of any kind to include blackberries, laptops, cell phones, tape/CD/MP3 players, pagers, keyless remotes, etc.;
• Food, liquids and beverages;
• Luggage larger than a purse or briefcase;
• Weapons, sharp objects or tools of any kind;
• Oversized strollers.
